Ultimate guide on how to write an SEO friendly blog

Table of Contents

Blogs and articles were the first media when we got to know about Digital Marketing. In terms of Digital Marketing, we call it SEO friendly blog and report. Now, why using the word SEO friendly?

In a box full of white balls, one yellow ball is enough to catch your attention at first place. And eventually, your subconscious mind will help you to remember that. Our human brains are like this. We are more likely to give our attention to anything that comes first.

In terms of Digital Marketing, Search Engine Optimization is essential. Whenever we type something in the Google/Yahoo/Bing, the search engine crawls millions of websites within nanoseconds. It picks the most relevant ones and places it all to the top of our search results.

There is no such alternative of placing blogs in the first place without the help of SEO. If you want your blogs to place at the top results, then you have to make it SEO friendly.

This blog is dedicated to all those bloggers and content writers who work their hearts and soul to portray a beautiful story on the web.

1. Pick a topic

The first thing we have to do is pick a relevant topic. Now you might think what an appropriate topic is. Very simple!

Suppose you’re seeing everyone is hyped up about the Football World Cup. At that time would you like to talk about Cricket or other sports?

Even, why do we get bothered about people without common sense? Because the relevant topic is always missing. Starting from your real life to the search engine, everyone to hear about material things.

So, if you want a massive or handsome number of people to see your Blog, pick up a relevant topic.

2. Develop a structure

Remember about Monica from Friends TV Series? Our search engine is her kid! Well, I’m just kidding. But both of them have joint issues. They both suffer from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Whenever the search engine is crawling through billions and billions of websites, they look for the most structured one.

Now how would you know that your BlogBlog is a structured blog? There’s no specific format of any SEO friendly blog. But you can always ensure three sections in terms of writing an SEO friendly blog. Those are :

  • Introduction
  • Main Body
  • Conclusion

Now you might think it’s a fundamental thing. But most of the content writers fail to do it. Everyone has a good story, but not everyone can narrate a story well. The art of expression is different from people to people. But there’s always something you can do in terms of developing the structure of your blog.

In the Introduction part, don’t go for introducing your main topic in the first line. Rather give a hint of your blog’s core topic. It’s a bit harsh to say but just bit around the bushes for a while but don’t make it long. Make sure your first paragraph words don’t exceed 120.

You might want to talk about your core topic in the second or third paragraph. But do not surface the scratch. Stick to the context and make your story simple to your readers.

In the Main Body part, go deep. Make sure your format is actually good enough. This part of your blog will have the most number of words. In each and every way, make sure you’re delivering the core message of your blog.

The same suggestion can go for the Main Body part too. Don’t do surface scratching. Stick to the main points and try to make it as much simple as you can.

Finally, in the Conclusion part, you have to summarize. The summary should include all the main messages. The take away should rewind from top to bottom but using less amount of words. In some cases, even less than the introduction part.

3. Go for long-tail keywords

If you have a common name, then I guess somehow you must be frustrated with it. Why do you get frustrated? Because people are overusing it. But still, people recognize you, pictures you when someone takes your name. It’s merely because of having something extra that helps people to identify you.

Your search engine is just a reflection of that. Whenever someone searches with short-tail keywords – it brings on too many results. It becomes really hard for the search engine to recognize any particular blog with a short tail keyword and rank that at the top of the results.

So always go for long-tail keywords. Don’t use keywords like Content Marketing. Rather use keyphrase like 2020 Content Marketing.

In terms of using keywords/keyphrases, you should follow some basic things. Those are

4. It should be in the first paragraph

Your keyword is that hint that we talked about earlier. Use that keyword as a hint of your main topic in our introduction part. Make sure the density of the keyword is good enough in your blog post. If the blog post consists of 2000 words then you should at least have your keyphrase for 8 times. You should also consider the ratio between your words and keyphrases.

5. Alt-text image

Alt text for images refers to those words which can be added to any image’s HTML tag on a site. We get to see this text description when a picture doesn’t appear on the web. In terms of adding the description, do not forget to add your keyword/keyphrase in the alt text.

6. Renaming JPEG file

After adding a JPEG format picture in your BlogBlog, rename it with the keyphrase or the keyword for your BlogBlog. It will help you to rank at the top position of the search engine results.

One thing you should remember, don’t put keywords forcefully in your Blog for making the SEO score suitable. It may change your blog context, and then it would not make any sense.

Keeping all these in your mind, use the keyphrase/keyword wisely.

6. Pick up a catchy title

The title for your blog plays a vital role. Everyone who browses the web and goes through the results; they don’t get to see the context before. It’s the title that catches their attention. So what should be the title?

First of all, it has to go with the trend. Even the low graded contents like “Make 6 Pack within 7 days” – people are clicking these contents just because of the title. You have to think from others’ perspectives that what can catch your attention. What would be the words which will compel you to click it?

Try to incorporate your keyword/keyphrase into your title. It will rank you up in search engine results. But if don’t look good then do not put keyword. Otherwise, it may affect the outlook of your blog to the audience.

7. Format your blog sections & subsections with different heading ( H1, H2, H3, H4 )

Formatting is an important part. Everyone with the Grammarly tool can be a content writer. But it will just keep them as a content writer. An idle SEO friendly content writer always makes the best format for their blogs. Now, what’s this formatting and stuff?

Whenever you see a blog you see the title’s font much bigger right? It’s because it uses the H1 tag. Like H1 there are other tags such as H2, H3, H4, H5, H6. Now for the sub-sections, subsections of the sub-sections, highlighting any quote or emphasizing on any sentence – these tags can be used.

8. Make your table of contents ready

The table of contents doesn’t mean the index. Rather it’s a part where the readers can get to know how should they go through the blog. More likely, blog content normally contains 1200 to 10000+ words. So, it’s quite normal for the readers that they will get bored. So just to make the content much simpler for them, have your content table ready.

A reader may not like all the subsections in the first place. But if they find one of their favorite topics in the table of contents segment, then it’s a plus point for you as an SEO friendly Blog writer.

9. Keep your blog title and SEO title different (If needed)

Now, this is a hack that most of the writers don’t know. So it’s a free giveaway for you. Always try to have your blog title and SEO title different. A blog title is just a blog title for the readers, but an SEO blog title is the one that we get to see in the preview segment of search results.

So, even if your blog title doesn’t include the keyphrase – you can always input the keyphrase in the SEO title.

10. Use short sentences and short paragraphs

When you’re assigned to write a blog, then just write a blog. Not an essay. I can bet in the high schools, you were definitely not fond of all the large sentences. No one does. Whenever someone is reading your blog post, he/she tends to finish it as early as possible. So visually how can you fulfill their untold desire?

You can make short paragraphs. Visually, it makes your content smaller and the reader continues to read it. Even while writing a blog, we as a writer use many vague terms most of the time. Our search engine can’t rank our content if it can not read it properly. And trust me – long paragraphs with long sentences are the enemies of your blogging.

Being an SEO friendly blogger, it’s not just a characteristic but a responsibility for you to make your content relevant, specific, smaller and interactive.

11. Link relevant content which is ranked top in SEO

Now for making your SEO score even better, you can link relevant content in your blog. The link that you’re going to incorporate will bring more visitors. Not only that, the Search engine ranks those links as a result that has got relevant content attached along with the blog/article.
